PHILOSOPHY OF MUSIC DANIELS BIBLE CHURCH
PREFACE
The development of our philosophy of music stands as a testimony to the faithfulness of our Lord to grant wisdom to those who ask in faith. Our informal interactions with one another involving our personal convictions and preferences were at times stretching; but the Holy Spirit has enabled us to present this philosophy with unanimous agreement.
Our project began in the Spring of 1988 with a two-fold purpose. The primary purpose being to establish a philosophy which would guide in selecting appropriate music to be used in the church. The secondary purpose being to suggest guidelines by which individuals could establish their own personal philosophy of music. The project is now complete even though it will surely need to be reevaluated periodically and perhaps expanded to meet the demands of an ever-changing culture.
We read extensively, considered a wide range of viewpoints, and had conversations with several professional men of the music field from across our nation. We believe the following philosophy of music will enable our ministry to select and present appropriate music that honors our Lord. It is now with a greater appreciation that we worship our Lord for His gift of music.
It is our desire that each member exercise wisdom in evaluating and choosing appropriate music. Wisdom necessitates that one does not judge another’s freedom and at the same time does not misuse his own freedom so as to hinder another’s growth in Christ.
